COOKERY CLASSES
FOR VISITORS TO DUBLIN
Bring Home a taste of Ireland that will last forever
The Country Kitchen in Dublin
“Did you ever make colcannon with lovely pickled cream,
With the greens and scallions mingled like a picture in a dream?
Did you ever make a hole on top to hold the melting flake
Of the creamy flavoured butter that our mothers used to make?
Oh weren’t they the happy days when troubles we knew not,
And our mothers made colcannon in the little skillet pot.”
Traditional Irish Cooking
Explore the heritage of Irish food and bring home the skills to recreate memories of your Irish holiday. Private hands on or demonstration classes including lunch or dinner..
The classes, which are in the original kitchen Alix’s Georgian home in the heart of Dublin, just 5 minutes from St Stephen’s Green, can be as short as 45 minutes for a simple soda bread or scone demonstration, to two and a half hours followed by dinner or lunch for a full hands on class.
A Taste of Ireland
The menu will be designed in consultation with the guests, and can include Irish staples such as potato cakes and soda bread, as well as more modern interpretations and treatments of traditional Irish food.
Local, seasonal ingredients are used in the school, but Alix will also explain how to source substitutes at home, so that you will be able to recreate the dishes. The class can be combined with a tour of Dublin’s food markets and speciality food shops.
Food Lover's Ireland
Special evenings include dishes inspired by themes such as the writings of James Joyce, a typical 18th century dinner party, or an Irish Country House meal from the writings of Somerville and Ross – though it won’t be a detestable soup in the splendid tureen, and the perfect salmon, perfectly cooked, will not be on a chipped kitchen dish! Recreate the atmosphere of a traditional Irish Rambling House – locals entertainers will play Irish music and tell stories after dinner
Prices for our Irish cooking classes depend on numbers, and the type of class – please call for details.
Storyteller or Traditional musical entertainment by arrangement
